Job Summary

Nehslo Animation Studios is building a vetted Freelance Writer Pool for upcoming animated and mixed-media productions. This pool will serve as a curated network of writers eligible for project-based engagement across original IP, episodic series, short-form content, and client productions.

Department & Level

Department: Story
Level: Various

Position Description

As a Freelance Writer, you will work across the full range of what a production needs from its writing team. You might be breaking a series episode, punching up a draft, rewriting a client script, or pitching an original concept for the studio's development slate. What stays constant is the expectation that you can serve the story in whatever form it needs. Duties may include but are not limited to:
1. Writing and rewriting scripts for animated short-form, episodic, and long-form productions
2. Contributing to and working within a series writing room environment
3. Delivering punch-ups and revisions on existing drafts under production deadlines
4. Developing original concepts and pitching ideas for the studio's slate when opportunities arise
5. Collaborating with Directors and Producers to ensure scripts serve the production's creative and logistical needs
6. Adapting and reworking existing IP for new formats, audiences, or client briefs

Required Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated screenwriting experience in animation, film, television, or mixed-media
  • Ability to write across tones, formats, and genres — not just one lane
  • Experience working from notes and iterating quickly under production timelines
  • Comfort working collaboratively in a writing room or as a solo contributor depending on project needs
  • Ability and willingness to receive and integrate feedback from Directors, Producers, and fellow writers in service of collaboration and story
  • A portfolio demonstrating range across script formats, tones, or production types
  • Clear and effective communication in remote, cross-departmental environments

Preferred (But Not Required)

  • Experience writing for animated series, shorts, or family-friendly content
  • Comfort pitching original ideas and taking creative direction in equal measure
  • Background in client-facing or work-for-hire writing contexts
  • Familiarity with industry-standard screenwriting tools such as Final Draft, WriterDuet, or equivalent
