Job Summary

Nehslo Animation Studios is building a vetted Freelance Composer Pool for upcoming animated and mixed-media productions. This pool will serve as a curated network of composers eligible for project-based engagement across original IP, episodic series, short-form content, and client productions.

Position Description

As a Freelance Composer, you will write original music that serves the story and the picture. Whether the production calls for a full orchestral score, an intimate acoustic palette, or something entirely unexpected, you’ll work closely with Directors and Sound Designers to develop a musical identity that is specific to the project and not interchangeable with anything else. Duties may include but are not limited to:
1. Composing and producing original score for assigned productions
2. Spotting sessions with Directors to establish musical tone, themes, and placement
3. Developing leitmotifs and recurring musical themes for characters or story elements where applicable
4. Delivering stems and finished cues in formats compatible with the production’s mix pipeline
5. Revising and adapting cues based on editorial changes and director feedback

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience composing original score for film, television, animation, or mixed-media productions
  • Strong ability to score to picture and respond to the emotional and narrative demands of a scene
  • Experience working through spotting sessions and integrating notes from directors and producers
  • Ability to deliver production-ready stems and cues to specification
  • Clear and effective communication in remote, cross-departmental environments

Preferred (But Not Required)

  • Experience scoring animated content specifically
  • Proficiency in a professional DAW and orchestral sample library workflow
  • Ability to work across multiple genres and tonal registers
  • Background in episodic or short-form production schedules with recurring deadlines
  • Comfort working in values-driven or family-friendly production environments
