Job Summary

Nehslo Animation Studios is building a vetted Freelance Director Pool for upcoming animated and mixed-media productions. This pool will serve as a curated network of directors eligible for project-based engagement across short-form content, commercials, and full episodic series.

Position Description

As a Freelance Director, you will help shape the creative vision and execution of assigned productions. You’ll collaborate with Producers, Art Directors, and Studio Leadership to translate scripts and story concepts into visually cohesive, emotionally resonant storytelling. Depending on project scope and level, your duties may include (but not limited to):
1. Defining overall tone, pacing, and visual language
2. Overseeing storyboards, shot composition, and continuity
3. Guiding department heads and artists toward creative alignment
4. Reviewing animatics, edits, and final cuts for quality and tone consistency
Directors in this pool may be considered for future long-term or recurring collaborations across Nehslo’s production slate.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience directing animation, film, or mixed-media storytelling projects
  • Strong understanding of cinematic language, performance, and visual rhythm
  • Ability to guide and communicate with multi-disciplinary creative teams
  • Clear and effective communication skills in remote, cross-departmental environments
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret scripts and develop visual storytelling strategies.
  • Strong storytelling and creative writing skills.

Preferred (But Not Required)

  • Familiarity with 2D, 3D, or hybrid animation pipelines
  • Experience in broadcast, streaming, or commercial production environments
  • Comfort working in values-driven or family-friendly narratives
  • Proficiency in collaborative production tools (Asana, ShotGrid, Slack, etc.)

Details / Scope

  • Flexible schedule; occasional travel may be requested
  • Exceptional candidates may be invited to participate in multiple productions or ongoing creative partnerships.
